IVAN ČAKLEC'S WATERMILL „PAPIRNICA“

IVAN ČAKLEC'S WATERMILL „PAPIRNICA“

This watermill, also known as "Papirnica", originally belonged to the Ivanec Parish. The property was then taken over by Vjekoslav Cigula, followed by the Herg family until 1965, and later by the Ivan Čaklec's family. The mill was powered by two waterwheels. During its history, the mill underwent changes such as the installation of a turbine before World War II and the switch to electric drive in 1969. The mill remained in operation until 2007 thanks to the efforts of the 89-year-old owner.

It is interesting to note that Ivan Čaklec reconstructed the mill wheels in Pust's mill and made wooden mill wheels for the Friščić's mill, including the last one installed in 2004. One interesting thing from the Hrvatsko jedinstvo (Croatian Unity) from 1945 testifies to the icy winter that damaged the mills and encouraged cooperation between millers from Ivanec and Varaždin. The long-standing economic tradition of Ivanec mills driven by the waterpower of the Bistrica mountain stream is clearly visible from historical records.
