PUST'S WATERMILL / MILL MACHINE

PUST'S WATERMILL / MILL MACHINE

Pust's watermill has a rich history. At the beginning of the 19th century, Mirko Markić opened a snuff (smokeless tobacco) factory. Franjo Pust and his colleagues took over the factory in 1831 and successfully managed snuff production until 1848. After the Austrian Absolutism, in 1849 it was transformed into a roller mill, probably the first of its kind in Croatia. It was powered by a high wheel that used water through a wooden channel.

The watermill was electrified in 1923, and after 1932 it was taken over by Emil Obsiger. This watermill was known for the production of high-quality white wheat flour, called "nuler" and "cvajer". Among the people, it was known as the Machine, because of the large machines in production.

Unfortunately, the watermill stopped working in 1970 and the machines were transported to Ludbreg. The building was later demolished.
