The original owner of the mill was Ivica Šutej, renowned for his musical and instrumental talent. The mill ceased operation in 1952. Subsequently, the property and the surrounding land came into the possession of the Mucko family, and to this day, it is popularly referred to as Mucko's Mill („Muckov Melin"). However, according to oral accounts, the Mucko family did not engage in milling activities.
Oral traditions highlight the former owner’s intriguing affinity for musical arts and other private, fascinating events that can be associated with the comedic opera Ero s onoga svijeta (Ero the Joker) by Jakov Gotovac.
Rudolf Bićanić notes that in folklore, the devil and the miller are often closely related figures. This is also reflected in Gotovac's celebrated and powerful Croatian national opera Ero s onoga svijeta (Ero the Joker), where the miller’s song holds a special charm. This parallels the cheerful personality of the owner of this mill.
(Excerpt from the opera Ero the Joker):
"…The water chatters, millstones grunt,
Spoons clatter like traps that hunt,
Under the stone, the grain does creak,
Fine flour flows, so soft and sleek:
Let those who mill hurry now,
For Miller Sima grinds it somehow!
Like a living human heart,
The mill rushes, trembles, beats its part.
When the mill by the water stills,
No one comes to it, no one wills.
When the heart comes to a stop,
Life fades – death takes the top…"
There are many reasons why the numerous legends from Ivanec, connecting water, mills, and mystical folk beliefs, do not surprise us.
Among the owners of the mills in Ivanec, there were noblemen, musicians, industrialists, intellectuals, and trained millers. In a way, we can speak of the social evolution of a community's microeconomy over a specific period.
