The house where Josip Kraš grew up is arranged as a museum dedicated to his life, heroic deeds and contribution to the fight against fascism. Here you can get an insight into his family history, childhood and the circumstances that shaped his courage and determination to stand up to the occupier.

Josip Kraš was born on March 26, 1900, and became known as one of the important participants in the National Liberation Struggle during World War II in Croatia. Josip Kraš died on October 18, 1941, in Zagreb in an encounter with the Ustasha. He was buried in 1968 in the national heroes’ tomb at the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb. It is interesting that even today there is a commemorative plaque on the site of the house in Petrova Street in Zagreb where he lived from 1937 to 1941 as the secretary of the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Croatia. The “Kraš” biscuit and chocolate factory in Zagreb was also named after Josip Kraš, and the Town of Ivanec repaid him by naming a street after him and arranging his birthplace. It was renovated in a traditional spirit and in terms of value it represents a significant example of traditional construction in this area.
